Uses and Indications:
Alacot DS Eye Drops contains Olopatadine hydrochloride 0.2%, a selective H1 receptor antagonist. They are indicated for the treatment of allergic conjunctivitis, including symptoms like: Itching and irritation of the eyes Redness of the eyes Watery or tearing eyes Swollen eyelids or conjunctival inflammation The drops are also effective for seasonal allergies triggered by allergens such as pollen, dust, animal fur, and other environmental factors.
Mechanism of Action:
Olopatadine blocks histamine from binding to H1 receptors in the conjunctiva, preventing the release of pro-inflammatory chemicals from mast cells. This action reduces the allergic response, quickly relieving itching, redness, and watering of the eyes. It also stabilizes mast cells, reducing the likelihood of future flare-ups when used consistently.
Dosage and Administration:
Standard Use: Instill one drop in each affected eye once or twice daily, depending on doctor’s instructions.
Application Tips: Wash hands before use, tilt your head back, pull the lower eyelid down, and place the drop inside the eyelid. Avoid touching the dropper tip to your eye or other surfaces to prevent contamination.
Contact Lens Users: Remove lenses before application and wait at least 10–15 minutes before reinserting them.
Side Effects and Precautions:
Alacot DS Eye Drops are generally well tolerated.
Possible mild side effects include:
- Burning or stinging sensation immediately after applying the drops.
- Temporary blurred vision.
- Dry eyes or foreign body sensation
- Eye discomfort.
Other precautions include: Avoid using with red, irritated eyes caused by contact lenses and do not treat contact lens–related irritation with these drops If allergic reactions occur, discontinue use and consult a physician.
Geriatric use shows no differences in effectiveness During pregnancy or breastfeeding, use only if recommended by a doctor, as systemic absorption is minimal but safety data is limited.
